In 2008, the retail landscape in Hastings, NE began to change.  As the economy dipped and local properties began to face challenges, many national retailers closed stores in the city.  After a Chamber of Commerce survey showed that people wanted more places to shop for women's clothing, Jason and Alex Schreiner decided to open a new fashion apparel store in downtown Hastings NE.

So in 2009, climate opened its doors in the Historic Farrell Block building, which already housed Winestyles and Jimmy John's.  The Schreiner's named the store "climate" for several reasons.  They feel that fashion and the clothes you wear should be more than just the shirt you put on your back.  The clothes you wear reflect your mood, your surroundings, and how you want to project yourself-your own climate.

Climate opened with a variety of popular brands for men and women, including Lucky Brand, Roxy, Miss Me, Billabong, and many more.  We continue to add to that brand mix each month to present our guests with the most fashionable product available.

The Schreiner's also wanted to create a store that was sensitive to the environment, keeping with the Yahoo! designation of Hastings as America's Greenest City.  Many of the wood fixtures our  clothes hang on are actually reclaimed wood rescued from a variety of places.  Some of our wooden arms and "waterfalls" are leftovers from oar factories that used to go to waste.  One supplier of our fixtures is also a member of '1% for the Planet' which means they give 1% of their quarterly sales to environmental groups approved by 1%. One of our favorite denim brands that we carry, MISS ME, is also a member.
